Since tomorrow is Pentecost, today is the last day of our novena. Mary has been guiding us through this novena with great love and even though we may not have felt her presence we can be positively sure that we have been under the shadow of her mantle and, as she told Juan Diego in the 16th century at Guadalupe, we are held in the crossing of her arms. Today we take the time to tell the Holy Spirit that we are willing to do whatever He asks of us, and to assure Him that we are willing to accept the gifts He brings. These gifts are tailor-made, as it were, for each of us, by the Spirit Who knows us better than we know ourselves.
It remains to us to come to know these gifts by name and embrace them in our daily lives as the need arises. We remember that the Holy Spirit of Love would not simply pour them into us and then leave us to ourselves. Rather, He makes His home in us and walks our daily journey with us.
Mary, Mother of my soul, be with me as I welcome the Holy Spirit into my heart with all His holiness. I ask that He may transform me from the inside out, into an icon of loving joy and compassion for everyone I meet.
I ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
