Day 8 Holy Spirit Novena

Novena for Pentecost

June 5, 2022

Day 8

In the Scriptures we see Samuel anointing Saul as King of Israel. Samuel says to Saul,

Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon [Saul] (Samuel 1: 6, 9, 10).

Another translation reads, The Spirit of the Lord will take possession of you….

Here in the Old Testament we see that the Spirit was living and active in the history of His People, and in individuals chosen by God to show forth His holiness. How much God loved us, that He would breathe forth His Spirit upon the earth and into souls that we might know Him and love Him with the Heart of God Himself. See what kind of God we have!

As we come to the end of this Novena which we have been praying so faithfully, the Church wants us to be immersed in longing for the Holy Spirit. As we have prepared for His coming, God is preparing our hearts to receive Him.  Did you see those words, You will be turned into another man, and God gave him another heart, and The spirit rushed upon him? These are not what we usually think of when we think of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is total transformation, brought about when He rushes upon us and we receive another heart. This means that He can’t wait to come, not another minute, nor will He be satisfied with the heart we currently have. All our prayers, all our longings, all our reflecting have drawn God toward us so that He can plant, during this springtime of the Church, new hearts in each of us. Imagine what we will be like on Sunday, and on Monday and in September and next year!

Our homes will be sanctuaries of the Holy Spirit.

Our Hearts will be the dwelling Place of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will be the Life of us.

Hold your breath: just two more days!
