Reflection for the Third Sunday of Easter

Divine Dialogue of God with the Soul

In today’s Gospel, John 21:1-19, Jesus asks Peter a question that seems so simple, but is really the one on which the whole of heaven and earth turns:

Do you love Me?

Not, “Will you avoid sin?”

Not “Can you follow me closely in a very difficult vocation?”

Not “Why did you deny me three times when I needed you most?”

Just this:  “Do.  You.  Love.  Me?”

That’s all He wants to know from each of us. Or, to put it another way, that’s all He wants each of    us to know about ourselves:

“Do.  I.  Love.  Him?

Can you hear that question in the depth of your soul? I can hear it in mine.

Our response–to Him and to ourselves–will determine the rest of our life.

Have a blessed week.
