“Jesus came home…”

Reflection for the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 2024

In the Gospel today (Mark 3:20-35), “Jesus came home with his disciples [and] the crowd gathered…”  Further in the reading, Jesus is told that his mother, brothers and sisters are outside, “And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’”

We have a family we are born into, friends that have become family, and our faith that guides us to our “church family.”  Each one is unique and important.  We honor God and must honor and respect one another.  As we take time to gather together, we can grow in our understanding and love for one another.

This weekend the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Memorial).  Each year, our Sisters gather together and renew our Consecration to both the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary with a simple gathering that includes prayers, singing, and time with family. It is a beautiful gathering that allows us to strengthen our bond and unite our Religious family.

Do you have any traditions that help your family grow stronger? That unite you in a unique way with one another?  Please feel free to share those by replying to this email or share them with us on our Facebook or Instagram post of today’s reflection @scmc.baltic

In addition to the Consecration we pray together each year, we begin each day with an “Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.” As part of our SCMC family, we’d like to share this prayer with you.  It can be found at the end of this email.

Thank you for being part of the SCMC family.  God bless you.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

To You, O Jesus, I consecrate my heart. Will You secure it within Yours? In Your Heart I wish to live and take up my abode, and through Your Heart I wish to love. May I live in Your Heart unknown to the world and known only to You.

In Your Heart I shall find the love which should consume mine. In It I hope to find strength, light, and true consolation. If I am fainting, It will give me courage; if I am sad It will give me joy, if I am troubled It will give me confidence.

O Heart of Jesus, may my heart be an altar ever burning with the fire of Your Love; may my tongue be employed in making known Your Goodness; may my eyes be unceasingly fixed upon Your Wounds; may my mind constantly meditate upon Your Adorable Perfections; may my memory forever preserve the recollections of Your Mercies; may my whole being, O Jesus, express my love for Your Sacred Heart, and may my heart be ever ready to make any sacrifice for You.

O Heart of Mary, next to the Heart of Jesus, the most amiable, compassionate and merciful of all hearts, present this my consecration, my love, and my resolutions to the Heart of Your Son. Through you, He will be moved to compassion for our miseries, and will deliver us from them, and thus, O Mother of Jesus, after being our Protectress on earth, you will be our Queen in Heaven. Amen.
