Happy #SisterSaturday: Meet Mother Marie Alma, SCMC!

Mother Marie Alma, foundress of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, was first and foremost a religious, a Bride of Christ. Mother was also a woman of vision and courage. To re-found a congregation of women starting in 1965 was certainly out of the ordinary, especially since there was no need of new communities of women religious at that time. Just the same, Mother’s heart was always open to God’s will and knew that if the Sisters of Charity were to flourish, we would need to begin again. So began the process which took over five years to materialize with no promise of what would lie ahead. She was a born leader with Christ as the Center of her life, and once convinced of the importance to re-found our community, met all obstacles with courage and a conviction that this was what God wanted for us.
Mother Marie Alma often told her Sisters about the importance of the “Sacrament of the Present Moment.” She stated, “You cannot do anything about the past and shouldn’t worry about the future, but live the present moment as you know that Jesus would want you to do.” She would also remind us that “Our strength will radiate because we are convinced that our life lived within our vows is not something, a way, or a function. Our life, Sisters is Someone. He lives now, not I, but Christ lives in me.”

Our prayer for each of you this day:

“Live the present moment as you know that Jesus would want you to do.” And remember that your true strength will not be found in something, but in Someone – May Christ live in YOU!
