Academy of the Holy Family Newsletter for May

A new dawn for the Academy of the Holy Family! The Academy took a two week spring break from March 30th to April 13th and classes started up again on the 14th. While some of the students and faculty relaxed at home with family and friends, the Environmental club was fired up and attended the “Connecticut Envirothon April 2021 Workshop Series Week” virtually. The environmental members have joined webinars about soils, wildlife, aquatics from April 5th to April 8th. A round of applause for these hard-working ladies, for putting drive into thrive for a better and more eco-friendly and sustainable future. Once the Academy resumed on April 14th, coming a long way from Kenya is our new student Maggy! We have waited a very long time for her arrival. She is a great addition to the freshmen class. We cannot wait to see her flourish and develop as a mature, grown, woman.

We are anticipating for the next school year and right off the bat, the Ambassador Induction for the new members was hosted on Friday, April 16th. Isabella Wright (Class of 2022), Yasmim Souza (Class of 2022), Anna Plascencia (Class of 2023), Rebecca Benin (Class of 2024), and Clara Lopez (Class of 2024). We are very proud of these new inductees to represent the school. We also showed gratitude to our graduating Ambassadors. May they share their gifts and talents wherever they may go!

On Monday, April 19th, the Student Council elections had launched. Some of the students were persuaded to vote with flyers, stickers or with words. The Student Council officers are gearing up for a new president, vice- president, and secretary. Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council officers for the year 2021-2022 are Grace Peckham (class of 2022) as President, Iris Gillette (Class of 2022) as Vice- President, and Angela Vu ( Class of 2023) as Secretary/Publicist; can’t wait to see what next year brings. On Saturday, April 17th the resident students went on a nice trip to the Gillette Castle State Park for a picnic. From April 19th through the 21st, the National Honors Society (nhs) members hosted a student appreciation week! The students played Kahoot, had delicious treats awaiting at lunch and left motivational notes for every student. On Thursday April 22nd, the Sophomores performed a scene from the Greek Tragedy, Antigone during lunch. The performance was a hit! The girls had beautifully draped costumes and portrayed the characters very well. On Saturday, April 24th, the members of FIT proceeded to hike their last final trail for the year. On Sunday April 25th, Eucharistic Holy Hour was being held in the Sister’s Chapel; very peaceful and tranquil. You can find the entire Holy Hour from start to finish at our Facebook page, @AcademyoftheHolyFamilyBaltic. Friday, April 30th is Earth Day and Field day. The girls are so excited to give it their all with fun and exciting games such as water balloon fights and potato sack races.

That concludes the month of April for the Academy! Tune in next time for the month of May; it’s going to be quite the adventure as the school year is in its last month, our seniors are drawing near towards the very end of their high school years, and a new chapter begins awaiting them in college.
