Reflection on The Most Holy Trinity Solemnity

Exodus 34: 4b-6, 8-9; Psalm (Daniel 3); 2 Corinthians 13:11-13; John 3:16-18

God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Why are people so fascinated by mystery stories? Is there a yearning in our hearts for resolution?

A math or science teacher can also solve many kinds of problems by using predictable formulas. In our life of faith, on the other hand, there are beautiful mysteries

which we can ponder and admire but we cannot completely understand. The Most Holy Trinity, Whom we celebrate today, is one of the deepest mysteries of our

Faith.

Pentecost showed us the power and mystery of natural forces like wind and fire. Today we marvel at the mystery of the Most Blessed Trinity which we cannot

understand completely in this life: One is Three and Three is One! There is One God in Three Divine and equal Persons. They are Love, each one being a distinct Person and all three abiding together in perfect self-giving unity and peace.

In today’s second reading, Saint Paul wrote to the citizens of Corinth, encouraging them to work for the unity which brings peace.

“Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another,

live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.”

Don’t we long for this perfect peace within ourselves, our families, and our larger communities? To mend, encourage, and agree, as Saint Paul said, will promote unity

that leads to peace, but being practical, we have to admit that it isn’t always easy. In a tense situation, I have to ask myself, “Should I be the one to restore harmony?”

The peace within myself is a gift of the indwelling Trinity – His gift from Baptism. How consoling it is to remember this in the midst of busy days! I can preserve this

peace with His grace, and strengthen it by a sacramental life.

Holy Trinity, help us to simplify our complicated lives, so we can more clearly perceive your inspirations from day to day.

The grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
