Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus

This is my body which is given for you – Luke 22:19

Love must be shared; that is its nature. Love also calls for a response of love from us. Under the layers of our busy lives, our souls long for union with God and in the peaceful silence of Eucharistic Adoration chapels, which most of us have experienced, we can return some of that love to God.

God is a Trinity of self-giving love. There are three aspects of the Eucharist that are His loving invitations to us: Communion, Sacrament/Sacrifice, and Presence.

First, Communion

The word “Communion” means “union with”. When we receive Holy Communion, we receive the Real Presence of Jesus: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity [CCC 1374, Council of Trent (1551): DS 1651].  Who could have thought that God would actually become Food for the creatures He made? Is it possible to come any closer to God than literally consuming Him?

Second, Holy Sacrifice/Sacrament

At each Mass the one sacrifice of Christ on Calvary is made present. The same Body and Blood are offered again to the heavenly Father for the forgiveness of sins. This Sacrament of Sacraments contains God whole and entire.

Third, Presence

Love desires union and does all it can to bring about union with the beloved. We long for the one we love to be present to us, to stay with us. God desires to be with us, since we are His beloved. He remains in our tabernacles after Mass so that we can continue to grow in our relationship with Him.

Yes, infinite Beauty, Love, and Truth, who created the still-expanding universe, wants to be with you and me, in person!

Know that I am with you, until the end of the world. – Matt. 28:20

There’s nothing like the Eucharist for the incredible gift that it is, in itself, and for the three dimensions of our life that it fulfills…

MORE He could not give, and LESS He would not give.

This expression describes the total gift of Jesus’ Body and Blood for you and me (cf. Romans 8:32). How can we thank Him? Let us begin by returning to the Lord the love He desires by receiving him in Communion and spending time with Him in His Eucharistic Presence.

A Blessed Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus…
Let us meet in the Eucharist!

God bless you!
